Day 54: Working Out The Pain

I went out tonight to run/walk a mile to see if it would help work out some of the soreness in my legs.  My lower legs have been fine after the Half-Marathon, but my upper legs, especially my quads, have been real sore since the race.  I think that’s the result of running up the [...]

Day 52: Taming The Beast

Well, today was the big day, and a day of firsts:

First official race
First official Half-Marathon
First Personal Record (PR)
First time to run over 10 miles
First time eating a Snickers Marathon Energy Bar (I’m sure that’s what saved the day)

The race went really well, I think. I had several goals in the order of difficulty: [...]

Day 48: Last Run Before The Half-Marathon

It’s Tuesday. I had planned on running last Friday, but we left town after work headed to DFW for the Alliance Airshow on Saturday (Sidebar: The airshow was great this year. We saw the new Army Sky Soldiers Cobra Demonstation Team and a Harrier — very cool). My next plan was [...]

Day 42: Let’s try an easy run

After my relatively great run on Monday and the fact that I’m still sore from it, I decided to do an easier run tonight.  I had originally planned to run 10 miles tonight, but I decided to go for 5 instead.  After I started running, I opted for 4 miles.  I was surprised how sore [...]

Day 40: Surprising Myself

I really surprised myself tonight.  I normally run at around a 10:20 pace, but on the fifth mile out of ten tonight, I picked up the pace and ran sub-10 minute miles for the remaining 6 miles.  My fastest mile came on lap 6 at a 9:14 pace.  I ended up finishing the whole thing [...]

Day 38: Testing the RS100

For the first month of my running, I use my cell phone’s stop watch feature to track my runs. It was nice because it would let you do lap times. Well, it died a couple weeks ago, so I’d been using a cheap stop watch. The only problem was that I lost [...]

Day 37: First 9 Miler

I’m still on my steady climb toward a Half-Marathon distance of 13.1 miles. I tackled 8 miles on Monday and today went for 9 miles. With 23 days left until the race, I’m starting to feel a little more confident that I’ll at least be able to finish the thing. My Monday [...]

Day 35: Cut short

I planned on running 8 miles today, but I started feeling ill about 3 miles into the run. I managed to get 6 miles under my belt but couldn’t continue. Better luck next time.
Stats: 6mi in 1:04:04 @ 10:41 pace

Day 33: First 8 Miler

Increased from 7 miles to 8 miles today. It was a really good run as far as my over comfort level. After finishing the 8 miles, it was the first time I actually thought I could have kept going to add the necessary 5 more miles to get to a Half-Marathon distance. [...]

Day 30: The Ocean Doesn’t Help

We were in Galveston, Texas this week on a business trip, and I got a chance to run along the 13 mile long, concrete seawall.  It’s not as romantic as running on a sandy beach, but I’m almost positive that it’s easier.  I thought that having the ocean view and the sound of the waves [...]
